Everything Announced Today About Battlefront II

Star Wars fans can sigh a breath of relief as today was a day filled to the brim with huge announcements regarding Battlefront II. It seems as if EA and DICE took the barrage of negative feedback about the 2015 iteration Battlefront to heart and are seeking to make up for their past mistakes with this new iteration. For the uninformed, the game received huge amounts of criticism for the lack of a singleplayer mode and the fact that a huge portion of the game was locked behind a paywall (season pass/DLC).

Let’s go with the basics:

  • Release date: As confirmed by EA this morning, Star Wars Battlefront II will release on November 17th. Those that preorder the game will also receive access to The Last Jedi-inspired content, similar to how the previous iteration gave the Battle of Jakku out as a preorder bonus (only to later be released as free DLC).
  • Different editions: As is to be expected, there will be two (currently confirmed) editions of the game. The regular version and the deluxe edition. The regular version comes with the game and any preorder bonuses while the deluxe edition comes with everything previously mentioned as well as upgrade packs (booster packs) for every class and 3 days early-access to the game.
  • Singleplayer: Battlefront II will feature a fully fleshed out and original campaign, following a female character named Iden Versio. Iden is a member of the Empire, so you’ll get to assume the role of the bad guys for once. It is set between the 30-year period between the conclusion of The Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. here’s the real kicker though, the campaign will be canon.
  • Splitscreen Co-op: Battlefront II will feature a fully functional offfline splitscreen cooperative mode exclusive to consoles. In the co-op mode, two players can play and earn upgrades which can then be transferred to the online multiplayer experience.
  • DLC: In an interview conducted by Mashable, creative director Bernd Diemer stated that the game will not have a season pass as a means to prevent playerbase fragmentation. According to Diemer, DICE are looking to “come up with something better”. In regards to how additional content will be distributed, EA stated this:

“While we’re not ready to confirm any live service plans just yet, what we can say is this we heard the feedback from our Battlefront community loud and clear. We know they want more depth, more progression, and more content. So we’re focused on delivering that in every dimension of Star Wars Battlefront II. We’ll have more to share about our plans soon.”

In addition to all of this, our friends over at Press-Start have some extra articles about DICE’s upcoming Star Wars shooter. I’d highly recommend giving them a visit and reading their articles by clicking here.

Preorders are available at EB Games and JB Hi-Fi.
